school
We teach children of all ages and abilities. Up to 70 children attend the centre each day from the LaBadi and Teshie communities in Accra. Those who attend have been selected by Billa due to their circumstances. Most if not all of the children who come to the UCC will not have any other opportunity to receive an education. There are many reasons for this, but mostly becuase they or their familly will not have the money to send them to school.

We also send over 126 children to Government run state schools. We monitor their progress and work with the schools to ensure they are doing well. We pay for their uniforms and school books which is the usual barrier to children going to school.

Our aim is to provide basic education to the children who attend the centre to enable them to enter the state school system and go on to gain their state qualifications. By doing this we are giving children the opportunity to realise thier potential where such a possibility did not previously exist.

The work can at times be challenging especially when staff numbers are low. Volunteers who come to us are an essential resource to enable classes to run well and to ensure that children are learning well.

This work has now been going for over 10 years which was started by Billa under a mango tree in Labadi.

You can volunteer with us for anything from 2 weeks to 3 months or more. Go to the link at the top of the page to see more about our ethical volunteer project, or click here >>>>>
